Head coach Martin Allen says Barnet’s recent run of form shows the Bees have moved forward after drawing 1-1 at York City.

Lewis Alessandra reacted quickest to give the Minstermen a 20th-minute lead but Barnet levelled eight minutes before half time when John Akinde snatched his fourth goal in his last six games.

A draw at Bootham Crescent means the Bees have lost just three games in 2016 while claiming the scalps of Portsmouth, Plymouth Argyle and Bristol Rovers.

Sitting in a seasonal high of 15th Allen’s side are 20 points clear of the drop and nine shy of the play-off places.

Speaking afterwards, Allen said: “The result the other day and the results against Portsmouth, Plymouth and Accrington show that this team have moved forward.

“The players are disappointed just to draw today, and perhaps there’s a tinge of disappointment that we didn’t quite play to the level that we have in the other games.”

The Bees boss continued: “York fought like tigers, they played like it was their last game.

“But we shows a lot of character, and I’m always pleased with a point. There are positives to take from every game.

“We put all our attacking players on to win the game, we didn’t just put players on to see the game out.

“I wanted to try and win it. The gaps opened up towards the end, but we weren’t able to be clinical enough to turn one of our good passing movements into a goal.

“(Sam) Togwell was unlucky when he went through, and Akinde had a goal disallowed.”

With a handful of senior players either sidelined with injury or working their way back to fitness Allen’s options are limited.

“Three games in a week isn’t easy, and that’s seven games in 22 days now for our squad,” he said.

“I rotated it against Hartlepool United and quite clearly that didn’t work; that was an error of judgement.

“But these players are relentless. They play high energy, high tempo and it takes it out of them.

“At the moment we haven’t got senior players that we can just bring into the team and fill the gaps.

“In my mind, every point that the team picks up is a good point – in every game, whoever we’re playing against.”
