Clinical finishing by League One Millwall enabled the Lions to knock Barnet out of the EFL Cup at The Hive with the convincing looking score of 4-0.

The Bees made three chages from the starting line-up that had played in the 1-1 draw at Cambridge United on Saturday, as Bondz N'Gala, Kevin Nicholls and Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro replaced Henry Taylor, Luke Gambin and Michael Gash respectively.

The Lions themselves made five changes from the side that defeated Oldham 3-0 at the weekend, but Manager Neil Harris had still picked an experienced line-up.

Ironically it was Barnet's most prolific striker, John Akinde, who gave the visitors the lead mid-way through the first-half, when the big forward sliced Joe Martin's free-kick past goalkeeper Josh Vickers.

Akinde did try to make amends moments later with a powerful surge down the left but he was tackled by Bryon Webster before he could attempt a shot on goal; a corner his only reward.

Just 12 minutes separated Millwall's first and second goals of the evening, and again Lady Luck was smiling on the Lions.

The ball fell kindly for Aiden O'Brien some 20 yards out, but to his credit he made no mistake with a fierce drive past Vickers into the Barnet net.

Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro, who had made such a dramatic start to his Barnet career at Cambridge, had a genuine opportunity in the 36th minute to narrow the deficit when his flicked header flashed marginally wide of the post.

The Bees did have their chances and could consider themselves to be unfortunate to be trailing by two goals at half-time.

Ryan Watson got a few shots early in the second-half for Barnet as the Bees manfully sought a way back, but the contest was effectively over when in the 73rd minute Steve Morrison headed home a corner at the near-post.

Millwall were now able to keep Barnet at bay by the simple method of keeping hold of the ball, a tactic which delighted the travelling contingent.

A header from substitute Michael Gash was subject to a frantic goal-line clearance but salt was added to the wound when the Lion's claimed their fourth of the night.

In the 81st minute Michael Nelson was adjudged to have fouled Fred Onyedinma and from the resulting spot-kick the midfielder duly converted from 12 yards.

The scoreline wasa harsh one, but the Bees were facing one of the better sides from a League above and will rarely encounter forwards of this quality in League 2 this season.
