Academy striker George Sykes has penned his first professional contract with Barnet and has "an extremely bright future ahead of him", according to the club's Academy Manager.

The 18-year-old forward will now set his sights on breaking into the first team after making his debut at Underhill earlier this season.

George was the top scorer in Youth Alliance football last season and recently earned a call up to a Scotland U19 training camp.

Academy Manager James Thorne told the club website: “I’m delighted for George and his family. George has worked extremely hard since coming to the Club as an Under-16.

"His work ethic and determination to improve has been the key to his success so far.

"George has an extremely bright future ahead of him, he is a player that is never satisfied and hates to lose.

"These attributes, coupled with his technical ability to hold the ball up, link the play and above all score goals has given him a platform to go on and have a bright future in the game.

"Again, I would like to thank all the Academy staff for their continued hard work which enables us to find and produce good players and people like George.”
