Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers’ Beth Potter helped the Great Britain & Northern Ireland Under-23 Women’s team to a silver medal at the European Cross Country Championships in Hungary.

With temperatures below freezing in Budapest, the GB side produced a strong display. The race was won by Great Britain’s Jess Coulson in a time of 20.40.

Potter crossed the line in 21.44, enough for 17th place overall and fifth for the GB team.

Meanwhile, Harriers held their AGM at which the Performance Awards for the year were presented.

Anthony Whiteman, world Record Holder at 800m, 1500m and one mile for men over 40, was named joint Men's Athlete of the Year.

Yamile Aldama, who finished fifth at the London 2012 triple jump final, won the Women’s Athlete of the Year award.

Geoff Morphitis was presented with a special award for his work this year in team managing the Junior Men’s team which won the British and European titles for the first time and the Senior Men’s team which won the British title for the first time.

Elsewhere, the SEAA Inter-Counties and Masters Cross Country took place in Woodford Green on The SEAA Inter-Counties and Masters Cross Country took place in Woodford Green, Essex on Saturday.

In the Senior and Under-23 Women’s race, Victoria Webster took eight in 25.00 while Under-23 athlete Rebekah Gardiner (26.09) finished fifth in her age category and 25th overall.

Suzu Sato took 34th in the Under-20 women’s even while in the Under-17 Men’s competition; Liam Dee came home in 18th with a time of 19.22. Adam Thorpe was 29th while Billy Kelsey took 55th in 20.44.

There was a close fought race in the Under-15 Boys but Jamie Dee claimed a bronze medal in a time of 14.43.

Thomas Fulton finished in 32nd in the Under-13 Boys while Adam Shiret (10.03) was narrowly behind in 34th. Nathan Fernandes was in 59th place with a time of 10.25.

In the Under-13 Girl’s race Jessica Hurley stopped the clock in 10.55 for 36th while in the Masters 50+ and 60+ Russell Devitt finished in 91st place in 49.52.
