Edgar Davids admitted he was “very happy” with Barnet’s performance in the Bees 2-0 win at home to Bradford City.

Davids’ side went ahead in the first half as Taiwo Atieno turned in an Elliot Johnson cross and the lead was doubled in the second period after John Oster coolly finished in the box.

Bradford created several opportunities throughout the contest but poor finishing and good defending helped the Bees keep a clean sheet.

After the game, Davids said: “I’m very happy we got the three points and the way we accomplished that means I am happy.

“I saw some very good spells in the game and things we train on worked. So that makes you happy to see that.”

When asked if he was more pleased with the performance or the result, the Dutchman added: “It was absolutely the result because sometimes that comes first. But I saw some spells that we trained the whole week on.

“So when you see how capable they are to execute it and at the right pace then you see there is a lot of progression.

Barnet top scorer Jake Hyde was surprisingly left out of the starting XI but his replacement Atieno performed solidly and scored on his full debut for the Bees.

Davids stated that Hyde was named amongst the substitutes to give the striker a rest after starting four games over the busy festive period.

The Bees boss said: “You have to think that a lot of the players in the team have played back-to-back games so sometimes you need to rest them and give other people a chance.”
