1:00pm Wednesday 16th January 2013 in Sport
Barnet Ladies progressed to the League Cup quarter-final after claiming a 2-1 extra-time victory against Lewes.
The Bees were the better side in the first period and created good chances to open the scoring.
Holly Sandow had an early effort saved before Stacey Sowden saw her strike pushed clear by Lewes goalkeeper Michelle Beazley.
Although they controlled the majority of the opening period, Barnet almost fell behind when Andrea Veiga fired narrowly wide.
However, the Bees quickly reasserted their dominance and Sandow and Sowden both tested Beazley.
Lewes managed to hold out until the interval and the two sides went in level at the break.
After the restart Barnet continued to carve out the better opportunities and they finally went ahead in the 66th minute when Helen King rose highest to head past Beazley.
But Lewes immediately pushed forward in search of an equaliser and they levelled the contest when Veiga fired home from 25-yards.
Despite continued pressure, Barnet couldn’t find a way through and the game moved into extra-time.
The Bees made the breakthrough in the 96th minute as Sowden finally managed to find a way past Beazley after breaking through the visitor’s defence.
Barnet saw out of the game comfortably to progress to the last eight stage of the competition.
