Hendon's upturn in form in the Ryman Premier Division continued after a 2-1 win at Carshalton Athletic

First published in Sport

Hendon made it five Ryman League Premier Division wins in six matches after defeating Carshalton Athletic 2-1.

The Greens controlled the opening half hour and they deservedly took the lead when Wycombe Wanderers loanee Lee Angol fired past former Chelsea goalkeeper Nick Hamann.

Hendon then doubled their advantage before the 20 minute mark as Sean Sonner opened his account for the club after turning home a Jack Connors cross.

However, shortly before the interval Carshalton were given a lifeline as Nathaniel Pinney converted a penalty.

The second period was largely uneventful and shots on goal were at a premium.

Belal Aite-Ouakrim had the only real effort on goal but his shot failed to trouble Hamann.

The Greens saw out the contest and Gary McCann was pleased with the win.

He said: “It was very important to get the win today,” said McCann, who celebrated his eighth year in charge of the club.

“We really should have been comfortably ahead early on and if we had taken our chances, it would have been much easier in the second half. That said, I thought we defended very well and didn’t really give them a look in.

“That gives us five wins in six matches. It is something for us to build on. But I will have to be careful how I use the team as the squad is rather thin at the moment.”
