New Barnet signing Craig Beattie insists he's as hungry as ever and that he can't wait to "get on the pitch and score goals".

The former Scotland international left St Johstone last month and the Bees moved swiftly to secure the experienced striker's signature.

“Now I am here all I want to do is get on the pitch and score goals," the 29-year-old told Barnet's official website.

“I think I can bring a lot to the table because I have experience in the Barclays Premier League and the Championship.

“I do not think I have lost any ability and the hunger is definitely there so hopefully the supporters, players and management at Barnet will quickly see what I have to offer.”

Beattie spent the past 18 months in Scotland where he played for Hearts for a season before moving to St Johnstone in August last year.

The switch didn't work out for the forward however where he struggled to gain regular first-team action.

“The past few months have been a difficult time for because as a footballer the only thing you want to be doing is playing games," he said.

“Playing in Scotland again was a great experience because it is where I learnt my trade playing for Celtic.

“I went back last year and had a great time, it did not work out this season but that is behind me now and I am looking forward to a new challenge.”

Among his previous clubs Beattie has played for Watford, Swansea, Sheffield United, Crystal Palace, West Brom and Celtic.

And the 6ft striker believes that his experience can be a valuable asset to Barnet in their League Two relegation fight.

Beattie said: “Everywhere I have been the team has been successful; I have had a lot of great moments and gathered a lot of experience along the way.

“I am well aware that we are in a relegation fight but hopefully I can bring some of that experience into the team, nobody wants to go down and I will do my best to prevent that.”
