Finchley Racing Team's Bartosz Kawka claimed a debut win at the Hillingdon circuit
2:00pm Friday 30th August 2013 in Sport
There was a first victory for Finchley Racing Club’s Bartosz Kawka as he crossed the line ahead of the field at the Hillingdon Circuit.
Polish teenager Kawka and teammate Andrew Perrin constantly attacked and worked together to reel in the breaks.
With two laps remaining, Kawka pushed on and left the field standing in his wake. Perrin did his best to slow down the chase and that allowed the younger team member to pull well clear and take the win.
The cyclist has impressed fellow countryman Marcin Bialoblocki, who commended the youngster on his debut victory.
Commenting on the result, Kawka added: “I still can’t believe I’ve won. Andrew and I worked very well together in the race. It was great to be congratulated by a great rider like Marcin for my win.”
Elsewhere, time trial specialist Trevor Burke rode a fine race to finish second the Cambridge CC 25-mile race.
Burke stopped the clock in 53.41 and was only beaten by multiple national champion Michael Hutchinson.
