Cup final defeat but Old Elizabethans celebrate title win
12:08pm Wednesday 11th September 2013 in Sport
Old Elizabethans suffered disappointment in the Herts League Trophy final as they lost by eight wickets to Shenley Village.
Elizabethans, who are two divisions below Shenley, won the toss and elected to bat. After losing three early wickets, the game was halted due to rain. With the overs reduced to 30 per team, Elizabethans were forced to push the rate and consistently lost wickets, eventually all out for 152.
Village's experienced batting line up saw them home for the lost of two wickets with seven overs to spare.
On Saturday, Elizabethans celebrated promotion from Herts Cricket League Division Four with a 72-run win against Ware.
Elizabethans batted first and posted a competitive total of 204. That proved too much to overcome for Ware who were dismissed for 132.
Captain James Heavey said: "This has been an extremely successful season, with the Firsts achieving back to back promotions to Division Three.
"Next season we will need to improve our squad to meet the demands of the higher division, we will be looking to recruit more talented players from the local community."
Old Elizabethans Seconds finished their Division Nine season with an eight-wicket victory against Allenburys while the Thirds drew their final day match against Letchworth Garden City Fourths in Division 13.
