4:00pm Friday 13th September 2013 in Sport
Golf legend Jack Nicklaus has sent a message of goodwill to members of Finchley Golf Club.
Nicklaus, winner of a record 18 major titles and more than 100 professional tournaments, sent good wishes to the club which hosted the James Braid Trophy event for the eighth time.
The competition, which began in 2006, is for four-man teams of seniors from clubs that either have a course designed by Braid or play against Finchley on a regular basis.
Nicklaus wrote: “As you gather together for the James Braid Trophy tournament at Finchley Golf Club, I wanted to send you my best wishes. Over the years this event has proved to be a great time of joining together, not only for competition and camaraderie, but to honour a great golf champion and course architect, James Braid.
“Braid made countless contributions to the game of golf and I am pleased that his memory lives on in this annual event.
“Good luck, play well, and most of all have fun.”
