Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers’ junior side finished second at the European Champions Clubs Cup in the Czech Republic.
The team management of Geoff Morphitis and Clyde Gordon had predicted a third-place finish for their young side but the Barnet athletes went one better and ended in second with 96 points.
Fenerbache Spor Kulubu, from Turkey, clinched top spot with 126 points.
A strong team performance underpinned their final result but the stand-out winning performances came from Kyle Langford in the 800m, Liam Dee in the 1500m, Michael Callegari in the 3000m, Nick Percy in the discus and Bami Falana in the 100m.
At the Southern Road Relays, Harriers’ young athletes were again in action and there were gold medals for the Under-13 boys’ side of Henry Fulton, Andrew Rogers, Nathan Fernandes and Jamie Harper. The Under-17 boys returned with a silver medal after good runs from Robbie Lightowler, Khalid-Ali Ahmed, Jamie Dee and Sam Griffiths.
The Under-17 women’s team consisting of Natalie Connor, Chloe Goodson and Sophia Parvizi-Wayne claimed a bronze medal.
