Hendon are off the mark in in Herts/Middlesex League Two with West London win
1:20pm Wednesday 2nd October 2013 in Sport
Hendon secured their first win in Herts/Middlesex League Two and moved off the bottom of the table following a 27-17 home victory against West London.
The visitors fired over an early penalty but Hendon hit back and Chris Towndrow picked up from a driving maul to crash over the line for a converted try.
Five minutes later and the lead was extended. Second row Dave Connell broke upfield and offloaded to fullback John McCarthy who touched down. On this occasion the conversion was missed.
Hendon went into the break with a 12-3 lead and shortly after the restart they went over for a third time.
From a West London scrum, the ball ended with Hendon and captain Gerry O’ Donoghue found space down the line to crossover.
The score then moved to 22-3 as winger Danny Blake received a pass and scored out wide.
Hendon were dominant. Forwards Blake and O’Regan pushed forward for what looked like another Hendon try but it was intercepted by a West London defender who ran the length of the pitch to score a converted try.
With replacements on, Hendon looked uncoordinated and started to leak ball. However, they regained control and Michael Blake went over to secure the victory.
With the game won and the final whistle imminent, Hendon’s defence relaxed and West London on the broke through to score a consolation converted try.
It was a deserved win for Hendon who travel to fourth place Uxbridge next Saturday.
