Cricketer Catherine Dalton scooped the Middlesex 2013 Player of the Year

Cricketer Catherine Dalton scooped the Middlesex 2013 Player of the Year award at Lord’s on Monday.
The 20-year-old all-rounder, pictured, who finished fifth in the ECB national batting averages, took the prize at a dinner attended by England players Steve Finn, Eoin Morgan and the Middlesex hierarchy.
Dalton, who plays for Finchley Gunns Cricket Club, only moved to the county from her native Essex last season and the award is recognition of her progress towards what many believe will be full international honours.
“I am in shock still that my name was called,” she said. “I heard the announcement of the winner having finished fifth in the national averages and then everything else was a blur. It’s such an honour to be viewed as the key player. I am just loving playing for Middlesex.”
Dalton, who created history by being the first female to play in men’s Division One cricket for Halstead Cricket Club earlier this year, is off to Bangalore, India in October as part of her further development.
“My focus is to represent my country at some stage and everything I do is aimed at that,” she added. “But to be recognised for your season at the Home of Cricket, is something I will treasure. It’s so inspiring and I want to do even better next year.”
