Barnet Elizabethans suffered their first defeat of the season as they lost to Belsize Park
5:30pm Thursday 3rd October 2013 in Sport
Barnet Elizabethans were left to rue several missed chances as their unbeaten run was ended following a 22-19 defeat against Belsize Park in Hertfordshire/Middlesex League One.
Park dominated the first 40 minutes of the contest and took the game to Elizabethans in both the pack and backs.
Three tries, two of which were converted, and a penalty gave Belsize a strong 22-0 advantage at the interval.
Elizabethans reduced the deficit in the second period as James Stubbs went over for a try but the conversion was missed.
Barnet gained confidence from the score and they crossed for a second time as Sam Marks touched down and Matt Harris added the extras.
With their pack in control and Park wilting under the pressure, Barnet were awarded a penalty try which Harris converted to bring the score back to 19-22.
Elizabethans then had further penalties in the half to get back on level terms but they were missed and the game ended in a narrow defeat.
Barnet are away to Haringey this Saturday while on Sunday Elizabethans will hold a mini-rugby festival at Byng Road from 10am.
