A late missed penalty proved costly for Hendon as they suffered a 17-16 defeat to Uxbridge in Herts/Middlesex League Two.
An early penalty from Garry Evans put Hendon ahead but Uxbridge hit back and three successful penalties put the home side 9-3 ahead at the interval.
Their advantage was extended when the hosts went over for an unconverted try and a response from Hendon was required.
With 25 minutes remaining, the home side conceded a penalty which Evans converted and, from the kick off, Paul Geraghty evaded several tackles before off-loading to John McCarthy, who went over. Evans added the extras. Hendon’s front row were dominant and Evans slotted over to put the visitors 16-14 ahead with five minutes remaining.
With two minutes remaining, Hendon conceded a penalty but were given a one final chance to snatch the win, but the kick from the ten-metre line fell just short of the posts.
