Hendon lose 48-8 to London Welsh Amateurs in National Junior Vase

An improved second-half display wasn't enough to prevent Hendon suffering a heavy 48-8 defeat to London Welsh Amateurs in the National Junior Vase on Saturday.
Unbeaten Welsh are widely tipped to go far in both league and cup competitions this year and they showed why early on, racking up three tries and 19 points in the first 15 minutes.
The next ten minutes belonged to the visitors however with John McCarthy and Tommy Middleton leading the forward charge into the Welsh 22.
Middleton was high tackled in attack and from the kick, fly-half Mike Evans-Jones slotted over to get Hendon on the scoreboard. Although Hendon’s forwards were able to compete on equal terms with the Welsh in the Scrum, too many line outs were lost and Welsh scored two more converted tries before the interval to make it 33-3.
Hendon were on the attack in the second period through after good running from full-back Judah Simpson.
After a five-metre scrum, Middleton's was stopped just short but scrum-half John Paul Cremin collected to dive over for a try in the corner.
Hendon were now using their forwards to outgun the Welsh with Dave Connell leading the charge but the home defence held firm before Welsh extended their lead to 38-8.
Hendon never gave up but could not turn possession into points and Welsh scored two more tries in the corner to book their place in the second round.
It's Hendon's turn to miss a league match this weekend but the Seconds are in action at home to Old Tottonians.
