Barnet assistant head coach Ulrich Landvreugd reflects on Concord Rangers FA Cup win
Ulrich Landvreugd was pleased with Barnet’s performance in their 3-0 FA Cup fourth qualifying round win against Concord Rangers and acknowledged the Bees had to come through a tricky opening to the tie before going on to comfortably progress into tomorrow’s first round draw.
The Bees found their Skrill South opponents awkward customers in the early stages but once Keanu Marsh-Brown and Dani Lopez had scored within the space of eight minutes, the outcome was never really in doubt.
Lopez went on to score a second after the break and the Bees finished the contest strongly, with Luisma Villa going close to adding to the scoreline on at least three occasions.
“I was happy with the performance,” said the Bees’ assistant head coach. “The first 15 minutes was hard, of course it was a cup game and a different pressure to a normal game. You have to come through the first 15, 20 minutes, it wasn’t too hard but still you have to do it. There were some sloppy mistakes also but after those minutes we got some space and created a few opportunities and two of them we scored.”
Lopez’s goals were his first since returning to the club on loan from Stevenage and Landvreugd remarked: “Every striker needs a goal now and then. For us it’s not the most important thing, the most important thing is that he’s helping the team but as a striker of course he’s happy and I’m happy for him that he scored. You saw how he happy he was with his [first] goal. He celebrated with the fans and also with his family, who came over.”
The Dutchman was delighted with how strongly Villa finished the game but felt his performance could have been better across the full 90 minutes.
The Barnet coach said: “I think he could do better. He finished very well the last half-an-hour but there were also some sloppy passes and also some genius passes but the effort must be higher; there are more good passes than worst passes. But at the end he was very attractive to see, his skills and his shooting on goal.”
