Hendon’s winning streak was brought to an end on Saturday as they lost 36-8 at home to Saracens Amateurs in Herts/Middlesex League Two.

Hendon had put together three victories on the bounce but were over-run by a slicker Saracens team looking for promotion.

It took Amateurs 15 minutes to score their first try as a well-worked move put the visitors in the lead.

The game started off well for Hendon, although attacks from Mike Fawcett and Dave Connell came to nothing.

Despite going 7-0 down after a quarter-of-an-hour, Hendon again came back with a back row move from Harry Charles and John McCarthy but were again stopped short.

The visitors were penalised however, and Mike Evan-Jones slotted over to reduce the deficit to 7-3.

Just before the break, another Sarries move outwitted the Hendon defence to touch down for an unconverted try, making the score 12-3 at the break.

Injuries disrupted Hendon’s rhythm and Saracens extended their lead with three more tries and a penalty to make it 36-3.

Tom Mathius scored in the corner for a consolation try but the damage was already done.

Hendon return to action on January 4 with an away game against West London.
