With Dorian Darch describing Anthony Joshua as “like a Spartan who looks like they have carved him out of wood”, the huge underdog accepts he has no choice but “to go for it” when the pair fight tonight and “what happens, happens”.

Watford boxer Joshua takes on Darch at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff in his fourth professional fight.

Darch took the highly-rated Hughie Fury to points in a six-round bout in September but Joshua is around 1/16 with many bookmakers to stop the more experienced fighter, who has won seven of his nine fights as a professional.

The contest was initially scheduled for December but the unbeaten Joshua had to withdraw due to a shoulder injury.

The weigh-in took place yesterday and afterwards Darch told iFLTV: “He is phenomenal; I’m not going to lie. He is like a Spartan and looks like they have carved him out of wood. There is one hell of a shape on him.”

Times Series: Anthony Joshua and Dorian Darch

Darch had previous stated he would take the fight to Joshua and he added: “What have I got to lose? You have seen the size on him, there is no point in me trying to out-box him, he would jab me to death. I might as well go for it and what happens, happens.”

Darch continued: “He is a tremendous boxer who won Olympic gold for this country. He talks well and is a respectful person so I am not going to say anything bad about him.”

The fight is part of the Matchroom show headlined by Lee Selby and Rendall Munroe’s European Featherweight title fight and will be broadcast on Sky Sports 1 at 8pm.
