Hendon’s Ryman Premier match at Lewes on Saturday was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch but the Greens were in action as they took on Leverstock Green in a practice match.

The Greens travelled to the all-weather surface at Parmiter’s School in Garston, north Watford, for the match and fielded an almost full strength side against the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division outfit.

The match went to form as Hendon won comfortably. Casey Maclaren and Tony Taggart gave the Greens a 2-0 lead during the first half.

Although Harry Henley did reduce the arrears just before the break, there was enough time for Dave Diedhiou to restore the two-goal advantage.

In the second half, Leon Smith scored his first goal for the Greens but former Hendon trialist Liam Hind grabbed a goal back for Green.

With a couple of minutes remaining, Michael Murray rounded off the scoring with a superb strike.

Hendon manager Gary McCann said, “I am very pleased. It was important to get some minutes for the players and to brush away some of the cobwebs.

“We have played only once in the past three and a half weeks but we are not alone in that. It is important that we got a game because we need to keep things ticking over.”
