Zane Duquemin and Gemma Bennett were named UK champions after clinching gold medals at the British Athletics Championships.

The indoor event, which also included the World Championship trials, took place in Sheffield over the weekend and Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers were well represented at the event.

Duquemin sealed top spot in the shot put with a season’s best throw of 18.31m while Bennett took first in the 60m hurdles as she stopped the clock in a season’s best time of 8.20. Both are now ranked second in the UK in their respective events.

There was further success for Shaftesbury athletes as Dan Bramble claimed a silver medal in the long jump after achieving a distance of 7.80m.

Nathan Fox set a new personal best of 16.37m in the triple jump to finish second and Nadia Williams jumped 13.27m in her triple jump event for silver.

Allan Smith (Under-23) returned from Sheffield with a bronze medal after he cleared 2.24m in the high jump which was a season’s best.

Daniel Lewis also finished in third as he set a new personal best distance of 16.31m in the triple jump while Zoe Brown came third as she set a new season’s best after clearing 4.16m in the pole vault.

Melissa Courtney (Under-23) set a new personal best of 4.14.86 as she rounded off the top three in the 1500m.

The other notable performances came from Ojie Edoburun, who is ranked first in the UK at Under-20 after he clocked 6.71 in the 60m.

Anthony Whiteman (V40) ran a season’s best of 1.50.92 in the 800m while Gregor Maclean finished fourth in the pole vault.
