Barnet head coach Martin Allen admits the Bees' Skrill Premier play-off chances are over

Times Series: Allen admits Barnet's play-off dream is over Allen admits Barnet's play-off dream is over

Martin Allen admitted Barnet’s chances of reaching the Skrill Premier play-offs were over following the Bees’ 4-0 defeat against Halifax Town.

Barnet were comprehensively outplayed at The Hive this afternoon. A brace from Scott Spencer and goals from Lee Gregory and Lois Maynard condemned the Bees to their heaviest league defeat of the season.

Allen’s side are eighth in the table and are five points off the top five positions. However, every side in the play-offs have a game in hand over the Bees.

When asked if the play-offs were now out of reach for Barnet, Allen simply responded: “Yes”.

With three games remaining the Bees head coach added he now must evaluate every player before the end of the campaign.

“There will be no sitting back and taking it easy,” he said.

“We’ll be back in on Monday and we have a duty to our contracts and the paying public to practice and train.

“The players are more disappointed. They don’t walk out of here happy go lucky.

“The three games give me a chance to assess everybody. There are still players I haven’t seen play properly yet.

“So I need to have a look at everybody now and in a couple of weeks time, I have the task of selecting the players I feel can challenge in this division next season, home and away.”

Allen was asked if he felt there was a core group of players currently at the club that could push for promotion next season.

He replied: “It’s probably not the right time now to speak about that because we have three matches remaining.

"With all due respect to the players and their contracts, we have to keep doing the best we can.

“We can then review with the help of the staff at the end of the season. We can have a look at what you actually need to get out of this division.”
