London Bees suffered their first Women's Super League defeat on Monday, losing 4-1 to Yeovil Ladies.

The Bees could not build on a strong start to the campaign against Oxford United Women, going down in poor conditions in Somerset.

Tom Donati's side started brightly and came closest when Amber Gaylor's shot was parried away by Yeovil goalkeeper Rachel Simkin only for Lucy Loomes to shoot straight at Simkin with the rebound.

Sydney Hinchcliffe came close for the Bees moments later, Loomes denied again with the follow-up.

Ten minutes before half-time Yeovil Ladies took the lead, Katie Cook controlling the ball from a quick throw-in before turning and drilling past Sophie Harris into the far corner.

Just five minutes later the Somerset outfit doubled their advantage when Sophie Pearson climbed highest to nod home.

Club captain Dawn Mallett made her return as a half-time substitute but could not halt the one-way traffic as Yeovil bagged a third.

Virtually from kick-off Yeovil forced a corner and Pearson was afforded the room to head home her second at the near post.

In the 58th minute the Bees got their consolation, Paige Wakefield leaping to head beyond Simkin from a corner kick.

Polly Wardle nearly got Yeovil's fourth in the 72nd minute, her shot somehow stopping on the line in the poor conditions before Pearson nipped in to complete her hat-trick from close-range.

Speaking to the club's official afterwards, head coach Donati pointed to his side's failure to take their chances in the first half.

"Certainly in the first half we created if I say, not only were we the better side but we had more chances than Yeovil," Donati observed.

"But it’s goals that change games and unfortunately we didn’t take those chances. If we take them chances we are two, three nil up, we didn’t take them chances and we go one nil down so that’s the difference."
