Mark McCall says victory over Harlequins in their Premiership semi-final shows how far Saracens have come since last season.

The Men in Black overcame a half-time deficit to beat Harlequins 31-17 and progress to the Premiership final against Northampton Saints on Saturday, May 31.

Saints beat Leicester Tigers 21-20 in yesterday's first semi-final at Franklin's Gardens.

Victory over Quins means Sarries now have major finals on consecutive weekends with Toulon standing between Saracens and their first-ever Heineken Cup next Saturday.

And McCall believes Saracens' semi-final success this term is the mark of how far the side have come this season.

“The squad is really confident at the moment," McCall told the club's website. "They front up every single week, we’ve got some demons from semi-finals in the past, against Toulon last season, and Northampton here twelve months ago, and to play the way we played against Clermont a few weeks ago, and to back it up today with that second half performance when we were brilliant I though, shows how far we’ve come as a squad in the last twelve months."

Saracens fell behind to an Ugo Monye try with Marcelo Bosch and Matt Stevens both in the sin bin.

Kelly Brown replied for the hosts but Mike Brown handed Quins a half-time advantage.

Brad Barritt cancelled out Quins' lead after the restart before Chris Aston added a third try to carry McCall's side to Twickenham in two weeks' time.

Owen Farrell kicked the fourth of his four penalties to apply the gloss to the scoreline.

The Ulsterman continued: “Our season was over this time twelve months ago, we had nothing but regrets, and this time having finished top of the Premiership by a long way that we deserved to win the game comfortably today and I think we can take a lot away from that.

“We’ve had five years of building to this point, it hasn’t all gone smoothly, we’ve had some setbacks but we’ve also had some triumphs along the way, but we’ve got players here who are more mature, who are better than they were a few seasons ago and it’s good to be part of," added McCall.
