Steve Borthwick is set to move into coaching on the international stage with Japan next season.
The Japan Rugby Football Union have confirmed Borthwick, 34, will become the forwards coach with the national side.
Borthwick will captain Saracens for the final time against Northampton Saints in the Premiership final at Twickenham on Saturday, and has captained England on 21 occasions.
A Japan RFU spokesman said: “Being a former captain of England, Steve has a good character and has great trust from the players.
"On the road to the World Cup, forwards will be the key to a successful campaign and we believe Steve as a forward coach will play a vital role.”
