London Broncos’ Kieran Dixon has joined Hull KR on a three-year deal, despite being made a “substantial” offer by the club.

The 21-year-old, who turns 22 later this week, has decided to leave the Broncos following their relegation to the Kingstone Press Championship.

Dixon scored 38 tries in 52 appearances since breaking into the side two years ago, and while it was not necessarily a surprise to see him leave the club, it does represent a sizeable blow for head coach Joey Grima.

Speaking to the club’s website, Grima said: “I want to make it quite clear to all our supporters that we did make a substantial offer to him over a seven to eight week period of negotiations but in Kieran's mind he always wanted to play Super League.

“Both myself and the club wish Kieran all the very best. (Hull KR head coach) Chris Chester has done an amazing job with his recruitment strategy and Kieran will be a fine addition to that strategy moving forward.”

After finishing as the Broncos leading try-scorer in 2013, Dixon was called up to the England Knights side, only for a knee injury which forced his withdrawal from the side.

Dixon marked his return from a length injury lay-off by scoring in the Broncos’ first win of the season on Saturday; stunning Challenge Cup finalists Leeds Rhinos 40-36 in an entertaining clash that saw them fight back from 24-8 down at the break.
