Ten-man Wingate & Finchley got back to winning ways in the Ryman Premier Division on Tuesday night as they defeated Harrow Borough 3-1.

The Blues went into the game after back-to-back defeats but took the lead in the 19th minute when Nico Muir deftly flicked home after a cross from Ahmet Rifat.

Wingate were then reduced to ten men. Goalkeeper Warren Carter was dismissed for committing a professional foul and the resultant penalty was converted by Steve Butterworth.

The game was level at the interval and Wingate were forced to defend for the majority of the second period.

However, they managed to sneak in front when Rob Laney found space at the back-post to volley home.

Despite more Harrow pressure, Wingate managed to grab a third goal and seal victory through Scott Shulton whose curled effort found the net.

On Saturday, Wingate were left disappointed as they were beaten 3-0 by Lewes on non-league day.

The day started with a match between the two clubs’ respective disability sides, which ended in a thrilling 5-5 draw.

With Sky cameras present, a half-time penalty competition and a bumper boisterous crowd, the day – despite the result – was a resounding success.
