Wingate and Finchley were knocked out of the FA Trophy first qualifying round by a late goal in a 2-1 defeat by Arlesey Town on Saturday.

Former Blue Dean Mason gave Arlesey a 17th-minute lead, before David Knight levelled from the penalty spot after the restart.

With three minutes remaining, Jamie Sage grabbed the winner from a scrappy corner to send the Blues out.

Wingate and Finchley took a creditable point against big-spending league-leaders Margate on Tuesday.

Danny Nielsen and Dave Norman’s side took the lead in the 58th minute via Knight, but were pegged back 12 minutes later when Luke Moore rounded goalkeeper Bobby Smith to net.

The Blues remain seventh in the Isthmian Premier Division standings.

  • Edgware Town extended a miserable sequence of defeats to 11 from their last 14 by losing 6-0 against Risborough Rangers on Saturday.
