Barnet coach Gary Waddock has left the Bees to join League Two side Portsmouth as assistant to manager Andy Awford.

Waddock only joined Martin Allen's staff on a full-time basis in November but has left The Hive to join Pompey with immediate effect. He had been coaching the Bees on a voluntary basis previously.

Speaking to the club's website, Allen said: “Gary has left to join Portsmouth as assistant manager, which for him is a fantastic move and a great opportunity. For the month that he has been with us full-time he has done a good job helping me with the training and the coaching and I am sure that he will do a fine job.

“All of us at Barnet Football Club wish him the very best of luck in his future.

“We will continue with the same staff that we have had for the previous five months that have got us into such a great position. No doubt, nothing will change. We are on our way.”

Speaking to Portsmouth's website, Waddock said of his new position: “Pompey are a big club and I want to help them start to move forwards again.

“I’m excited to be working with Andy, the staff and players, as well as getting to know the fans here.

“I’ve worked at this level before, so know what is required and now I can’t wait to get started.

“I’d like to thank the manager and chairman at Barnet for their help in allowing me to move here.”

Waddock joins the Fratton Park club in 12th place in League Two - five points shy of the play-off places.
