Barnet will host Concord Rangers in a replay on Tuesday after being held to a goalless draw by the ten men in the FA Trophy first round.

Both sides created a number of presentable chances but the Bees were unable to make the most of their numerical advantage after the break.

Left-back Danny Glozier was sent off just four minutes into the second half for committing a professional foul outside the penalty area.

Martin Allen handed full debuts to two players, with Under-18s pair Harry Taylor and Joe Gater coming into the side.

Keanu Marsh-Brown, who had been training with Peterborough United, and Sam Muggleton, who had been sidelined since September, also started as Allen shuffled his pack.

In goal, Sam Cowler made the first appearance of his second spell with the Bees, with Mauro Vilhete, Gater, Jack Saville and Muggleton in front of him.

In midfield, Marsh-Brown and Luke Gambin started on the flanks, with Taylor and David Hunt paired in the centre. Charlie MacDonald and Bernard Mensah began up front together – MacDonald coming into the side at his own request having originally been pencilled in as a substitute.

The two sides began brightly on a heavy pitch, with Beach Boys forward and top-scorer Steve Cawley racing onto a long ball and lobbing a shot over Cowler against the crossbar and over.

Two minutes later the impressive Gambin robbed right-back Jeremy Walker and cleverly prodded the ball into the path of Mensah, who in turn dragged his shot wide at the near post on the run.

A long kick from Cowler was then flicked on by Mensah for MacDonald, who rounded the last Concord defender before slotting wide of the post from just inside the penalty area.

After an action-packed start the tie gradually settled down and it was not until the 35th minute Barnet truly threatened again. Muggleton’s long throw-on found its way into the path of Marsh-Brown, who opened up his body and slammed into the midriff of goalkeeper Josh Vickers.

Barnet continued to carve out chances, with MacDonald’s attempted cut-back for Hunt intercepted before the Oxford loanee could strike, though Concord came close when Cawley flicked a header wide at the near post.

Concord had the final chance of the half when Sam Collins latched onto a ball to the left of the penalty area and tested Cowler with a firm first-time effort which the former West Ham stopper did well to push to safety.

Barnet made one change at the break, with centre-back Charlie Kennedy making his first-team bow in place of fellow debutant Taylor who had been booked.

The second half was just four minutes old when the Beach Boys were reduced to ten men. With Mensah sprinting through on goal and Glozier caught flat-footed, the full-back was rightly dismissed for bringing down the Watford loanee as the last defender.

Concord had the first presentable chance of the second period when, shortly before the hour mark, substitute Lewis Taaffe raced through on goal before planting wide of the far post with Cowler already committed to the dive.

Joe Gardner was next to try his luck, firing into the arms of Cowler from 20 yards from a central position.

With the tie set for a replay next week, Allen brought on John Akinde and Matt Stevens as the Bees searched for a winner.

Despite those changes it was Concord who came close from their next foray forward, Cowler spilling a shot and taking out a team-mate but the Beach Boys were unable to profit from the mix-up.

Stevens could have put the Bees in front when he met Akinde’s far-post knock-down but instead planted his first-time effort wide from close-range.

Barnet could not force a winner, with Akinde unable to get a shot off after getting on the end of a long ball into the penalty area.

Concord almost snatched the winner when a deep free-kick from the right reached the back post, but no-one in yellow could get the decisive touch.

The replay will take place at The Hive on Tuesday (kick-off 8pm).
