Elliott Brathwaite's 90th-minute header was enough to secure a point for Hendon at Maidstone United on Saturday and strengthen their grip on fourth place.

A 1-1 draw at The Gallagher Stadium ensured the Greens will be fourth in the Isthmian Premier Division on Christmas Day and keeps fifth-placed Met Police eight points behind.

Hendon had the first chance of note when Charlie Goode crashed an effort against the frame of the goal after 18 minutes.

After the break the Stones improved and Hendon goalkeeper Ben McNamara had to be alert to push Matt Bodkin's effort over the bar.

In the 52nd minute the home side took the lead. Bodkin collected Jay May's pass and crossed for Frannie Collin, who made no mistake in planting a header beyond McNamara.

Eleven minutes later McNamara did well to tip over Bodkin's header from a Ben Greenhalgh cross.

Gary McCann's side snatched a point in stoppage time though, as Brathwaite met Tony Taggart's corner and powered a header beyond home goalkeeper Lee Worgan.

David Knight was the match winner for Wingate & Finchley, who squeezed past Grays Athletic 1-0 on Saturday.

Visitors Grays had the first chance after 11 minutes; Joao Carlos firing Aaron Wickham's cross wide under close attention from two Blues defenders.

Tommy Tejan-Sie and Richie Graham both saw chances go astray for the hosts before half time.

Wingate & Finchley were on top after the restart and saw Knight and Ola Sogbanmu both come close to breaking the deadlock.

The goal finally arrived when Tejan-Sie's through ball found Knight in space to slot past keeper Conner Gough.

Hendon host Wingate & Finchley on Saturday, December 27 with the Greens allowing supporters to pay what they want to gain admission.

Supporters who pay at least £5 will be entered into the club's end of year draw for a guaranteed cash prize of at least £800.

Edgware Town were not in action on Saturday. The Wares visit Southall on Saturday, December 27.
