Hendon’s 3-1 win over Kingstonian on Saturday was imperative in the eyes of manager Gary McCann, as the Greens clung onto their play-off place.

Two of the sides above the Greens, Dulwich Hamlet and Maidstone United, both lost meaning Hendon hang onto fifth place in the Isthmian Premier Division.

Reflecting on the win, McCann, pictured, told the club website: “It was a really good day for us, with the teams above us – Dulwich and Maidstone – losing.

“After losing at Enfield Town, it was imperative to get back to winning ways and this was a difficult game. If it had gone the other way we would have been looking over our shoulders and been worrying about dropping out of the play-offs.”

He added: “It was a performance that had a little bit of everything. We started slowly, but that was no surprise given that we had not played a competitive game for 14 days and Kingstonian came in on the back of four straight wins.

“But once we got into the game, we were excellent. Despite the conditions our passing was very good and we could have scored a few more goals.”

Strikes from Casey Maclaren, Kezie Ibe and Aaron Morgan sealed the win for the Greens, who return to action at Peacehaven & Telscombe on Saturday.

Wingate & Finchley, meanwhile, are hot on Hendon’s tails after beating Lewes 2-0 on Saturday.

The win leaves Danny Nielsen and David Norman’s side outside the play-off places by four points, though they have played three more games than Hendon.

Victory was sealed thanks to first-half efforts from David Knight and Karl Oliyide. Wingate travel to Harrow Borough on Saturday.

Edgware Town lost 2-0 against Broxbourne Borough on Saturday, they travelled to Southall on Tuesday night before entertaining Risborough Rangers on Saturday.
