Wingate & Finchley slipped two places to ninth in the Isthmian Premier Division, despite picking up a creditable goalless draw at Margate on Saturday.

Karl Oliyide and Rob Laney had the Blues' best chances but found Gate goalkeeper Nikki Bull in inspired form when they did carve out opportunities in a tight contest.

However, Blues keeper Bobby Smith also had to be alert on more than one occasion to preserve a point for Danny Nielsen and Dave Norman's side against big-spending Margate, who looked destined to win it at the end but for saves to deny Zac Attwood and Ryan Moss.

Wingate Captain Mark Weatherstone commented: “It was a very good game between two good teams looking for promotion. Overall, I think it was probably a fair result.

"We dominated the first half and they had the better of the chances in the second. We're a confident unit at the minute and we keep growing in confidence every game. Not many teams come here and get a result, we're happy with a clean sheet and a point gained."

Addressing keeper Smith's performance, he enthused: “He does it week in week out, he is a class keeper and it is no surprise to me.”

Wingate host Dulwich Hamlet on Saturday before a trip to Grays Athletic on Wednesday.

In Spartan South Midlands Division One, Edgware Town won a nine-goal thriller at home to Langford 5-4.

Jay Molloy, Adem Ali and Bruno Manuel gave the Wares a 3-1 half-time lead. Molloy and Luke Durnin extended the lead after the break before a mini collapse made for a nervy finale.

Edgware travelled to Southall on Wednesday evening and make the trip to Wodson Park on Saturday. Baldock Town visit Silver Jubilee Park on Tuesday.
