Player-coach Jon Nurse has left Barnet by mutual consent after his contract with the Bees came to an end.

The 34-year-old striker signed a one-year deal to remain at The Hive last summer and along with Graham Stack, the Barbadian took on coaching responsibilities as part of Martin Allen’s staff.

However, the former Dagenham & Redbridge and Stevenage forward has now left the club after failing to agree terms to remain for a fourth season.

Speaking to the club website, he said: “It was a great achievement to gain promotion with Barnet last season; the fans’ support was fantastic and helped us get over the finish line.”

Chairman Tony Kleanthous added: “Jon Nurse was an excellent servant to the club and put in a lot of effort both on & off the pitch contributing to our successful promotion campaign.”

“We here at Barnet FC wish Jon well with his chosen path into the world of coaching and we will follow his progress with interest. Our thanks go to him or his work with us over the years.”

Nurse joined Barnet from the Daggers in the summer of 2012 but after scoring just three goals in 26 league appearances fell down the pecking order.

He was loaned out to Farnborough Town during the 2013/14 campaign but returned to sign a one-year deal at The Hive ahead of last term.

The popular forward made just 12 first-team appearances in all competitions last season, with six of those coming as starts. In total, Nurse made 61 appearances for the club, scoring six goals.
