Finchley picked up an impressive 35-run win at league-leaders Ealing on Saturday in Division One of the Middlesex Cricket League.

The visitors won the toss and opted to make first use of the batting track. And that decision was very much vindicated as Cameron Steel (50) and Fred Daeche-Marshall (82) took to their task with relish.

But the runs did not flow so freely once the Finchley openers were dismissed and the away side were removed for 224.

Where their batting lacked, their bowling thrived, though, and Frahan Butt (five for 56) and Namir Suepaul (four for 74) accounted for all but one of the wickets taken as the table toppers were removed for 189.

Elsewhere in Division One, Stanmore trounced Indian Gymkhana but 107 runs.

Having won the toss, Stanmore put up an imposing total of 286 for five before declaring; Rishi Pandya (70) and Jimi Chialoufous (89) the protagonists.

And after a bright start in reply, Indian Gymkhana were in trouble when Tushaar Karia (four for 63) found his rhythm, helping remove the visitors for 179 to seal victory.

In the Herts League Premier Division, Potters Bar eased to a seven-wicket win at home to Hemel Hempstead Town.

Inserted, visitors Hemel looked to be on their way to a lowly total as Usmar Sahar (five for 58) struck routinely.

However, an unbeaten 102 from Alistair Leighton went a long way towards boosting Hemel to a total of 27 for nine.

But that was not enough and the union of openers James Scott (65) and Nick McLachlan (62) helped steer Potters Bar to the necessary 272 for the loss just three wickets.

Totteridge Millhillians breezed to an eight-wicket home win over Stevenage thanks to Steve Selwood and Shaun O’Brien’s partnership.

Set a meagre total of 180 all out to chase after losing the toss, Totteridge made light work of picking up 30 points and got home in 31 overs with 184 for two.

Selwood (67 not out) and O’Brien (70 not out) laid on the runs to ensure the points with minimal fuss.

In Division One, Old Finchleians were trounced by 142 runs at Broxbourne after a dire batting display.

Chasing a reasonable total of 226 for eight, Old Finchleians were all out for a paltry 84.

Mitheel Jagani (28) top scored as Broxbourne mercilessly ripped them apart.

The bowling of Sean Price guided Old Elizabethans to a three-wicket win at Hatfield Hyde in Division Three A.

Price (four for 26) had the number of Hatfield batsmen and helped remove the home side for just 160.

Old Elizabethans overcame a wobbly start to prevail with 161 for seven; Nick Jones (40) leading from the front.

A thrilling one-wicket victory saw Mill Hill Village climb back to the top of Division 6B.

A good bowling performance restricted Eversholt to 156 all out, with Majid Asif (six for 29) doing most of the damage.

The Village struggled in reply, losing wickets regularly and at 95 for seven looked in real trouble.

However, the cool head of Felix Charles (69 not out) helped steer the tail to overhaul the target and secure the 30 points.

Finchley were dumped out of the Middlesex Twenty20 Cup at the quarter-final stage after losing on run-rate by four wickets to North Middlesex on Sunday.

Inserted, hosts Finchley put on a reasonable total of 144 for four, thanks largely to an unbeaten 71 from Niraj Jadav.

North Middlesex were set a target of 99 from 12 overs due to rainfall and made it to 100 with two balls to spare.
