Martin Allen says there will be no surprises when Barnet’s second-choice goalkeeper is unveiled later today after confirming he had made a decision on who would deputise for Graham Stack.
Chris Haigh was informed last night he would not be required going forward, leaving Jamie Stephens, Daniel Lincoln and Ashlee Jones in the frame to be the Bees’ number two between the sticks.
Allen stated after Saturday’s 2-0 win at Eastleigh he would make a decision on his preferred second-choice stopper in time for today.
And speaking during Barnet’s 4-3 defeat at Northwood on Monday evening, Allen confirmed that was still the case.
“Yes, [there will be a decision on Tuesday],” said Allen. “We have looked at a lot of goalkeepers and we have done our due diligence to check them all out to see what they are like as people and what they have done in the past.
“I was always going to leave it late and we have got a lot of options. There are probably half a dozen keepers who have not got a club who could come in and do a job but I wanted to get the right one.
“With seven subs there will always be a keeper on the bench but we wanted to try and improve on what we did last year and I think we will get an improvement.”
Asked if the man he had chosen to be Stack’s understudy would be one of the four to have featured on trial in pre-season, Allen replied: “Yes, there won’t be any surprises. It is just the contract due to be finalised.”
