Barnet boss Martin Allen has ruled out adding to his squad as he prepares to face Cambridge United on Saturday with as many as four players injured.

The Bees were without Graham Stack (groin), Andy Yiadom (foot), Sam Togwell (shin) and Kevin Lisbie (hamstring) for Tuesday’s 2-1 League Cup defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

But despite naming two members of Barnet’s title-winning Under-18 side – goalkeeper Kai McKenzie-Lyle and midfielder Fumnaya Shomotun – on the bench for the clash at Molineux, Allen is adamant he will not be tempted to dip into the loan market to bolster his depleted squad.

He said: “I still feel, even with the injuries, we have got enough senior players to put 11 out plus five good subs, which is all you basically need anyway – as we proved that last season.

“We can’t panic that we might not have people on the bench and every now and then we will try our utmost to get some of these young players who have done so well up to the first team, training and developing with us.”

Eight members of last season’s Under-18s were given professional contracts in the summer but only second-year scholar Matt Stevens has made a first team appearance this season.

Head coach Allen insists the timing must be right for introducing those young players. But with four of his 19-man squad set to miss Saturday’s visit from the U’s, his hand could be forced.

He explained: “It is not easy at the moment for the young lads. They played Tottenham Hotspur last week and won handsomely there and did really well.

“I have a full report on that game and know who did well, so I am up to speed with what the young lads are doing. But at the moment I have got to work with the senior players.

“That transition from youth football to men’s football does not happen in three months – that is for sure.”

Goalkeeper Stack missed the defeat at Wolves after coming through Saturday’s 3-1 loss at Bristol Rovers with a groin problem, and Allen revealed afterwards the player-coach will not be fit for Saturday.

He said: “He has had two problems. On Saturday before the game he was struggling but he decided he wanted to carry on when I had to make the decision whether to sub him or not. He is going to be out now for at least a couple of weeks.”

Veteran striker Lisbie, 36, has yet to make his Barnet debut. The former Charlton Athletic forward has been sidelined by a hamstring problem sustained in the final week of pre-season which could require surgery.

“At the moment we are waiting to see a specialist consultant who deals with that particular hamstring injury. It is not normal,” admitted Allen. “There is a rupture in the tendon just where it goes into the bottom of his backside and that is an area which needs a specialist.”

Midfielder Togwell is 50:50 for Saturday due to a bruised shin. Andy Yiadom, who missed Saturday’s defeat by the Gas, has not suffered a fracture in his foot but will be sidelined by bruising.
