Martin Allen insists Barnet's Football League Trophy tie at Yeovil Town is an important game despite promising to make changes for the fixture on Tuesday (kick-off 7.45pm).

Competition rules stipulate teams must include six players from their last league fixture to preserve the integrity of the tournament.

Allen will, though, introduce some of those who have been on the fringe so far this season whilst resting those carrying knocks.

Speaking on Monday, the Bees head coach said: “Yes, I will consider shuffling the pack. Some of the players who did not play on Saturday will play.

“We will obviously meet the criteria and that game might give me the chance to look at some of the younger lads through the evening.

“I think it has been well-documented we have had some injuries recently and it is vitally important we get those closed up. Those players who have had knocks, Andy Yiadom, Sam Togwell and Michael Gash, won’t be playing because we have to get the injuries tidied up.”

The Football League Trophy is another new competition for the Bees following promotion from the Conference. Allen used the non-league equivalent, the FA Trophy, to play a much-changed side last year but has stressed the game will be taken seriously.

“It is an important game,” Allen confirmed. “There are players on our bench who need to play. We are going to need them.

“The five subs from Saturday are going to be the other lads to make that up and then we will take two or three young ones with us to make up the bench and then we will see what happens as the game goes, whether we can put them on or a couple of senior players.”

Glovers boss Paul Sturrock is likely to call on a number of inexperienced players once more as a string of injuries have limited his options.

The Somerset side lost 2-0 at Oxford United on Saturday, with the average age of the starting XI just 21, following a 3-2 win over Luton Town a week earlier.

He told the Western Daily Gazette: "There were four or five playing today who still don't know the game fully. The right-back [Connor Roberts] is 19. [Stephen] Arthurworrey - for a big man - is still only 20, so he's a baby when it comes to the situation we're in.

"There's a fear when you're young and things aren't going well and confidence can erode very quickly.

"I'm still in a scenario where I still don't know what my best team is. At this minute there are a lot of half men out there and a lot of players still trying to find their feet and we're suffering because of that."

Yeovil will include in their ranks former Bee Iffy Allen, who has made three appearances for the Glovers since moving to the West Country on a free transfer over the summer.
