Barnet will not be doing any business before the transfer window closes on Tuesday, Martin Allen has confirmed, stating more players mean more problems.

The Bees head coach has been consistent in his desire to work with just 19 players this season, despite the number of substitutes increasing from five to seven since promotion back to the Football League.

That squad size was, however, exceeded by the addition of Aaron McLean on a short-term deal following injury to Kevin Lisbie. But Allen feels there are benefits to be gained from working with a small group.

Speaking on Monday, he said: “We have got 20 players now so if you bring players in you would be looking to move people out.

“What we had last season was a very strong group of lads who were very close and there were no factions; it was everybody in the same group together which was powerful.

“I think we are moving in that direction now. The attitude of the players in the dressing room on Saturday was good. I said ‘Well done’ to them. The subs all congratulated everybody. You get a feel when you are in the dressing room and if you start bringing too many players in it becomes a problem.”

Allen continued: “I could not get Ben Tomlinson on the bench on Saturday and when you can’t get everybody on the bench with seven subs people start to get naffed off and I don’t want it to happen here.

“More players can lead to more problems and I think the time to review that will be in January.

“These players need to be given a chance to settle into a club and moving into the area. We need to back them, support them and be positive with them.”

Times Series:

Winger Andy Yiadom is understood to have been subject of three offers from League One side Barnsley, the last of which was described by Allen as derogatory and derisory.

The Tykes, though, have not returned with a fourth offer and Allen expects the former Watford scholar to remain at The Hive beyond Tuesday’s 6pm deadline.

“No, there have been no more offers and no-one is going,” stated Allen. “The offer for our youth team centre-forward (Matt Stevens) was double, treble the offer for our best player, so why on earth would we sell for that? It’s ridiculous.

“There won’t be anyone moving and from what I have been told there won’t be anything happening.”
