Barnet boss Martin Allen says he will make changes for this evening’s test at Notts County and believes the Magpies are a better side than the one which lost to Salford City in the FA Cup.

The Bees will be looking for their first win in three at Meadow Lane after a goalless draw at home to Morecambe on Saturday and a 2-0 defeat at Luton Town a week earlier.

And Allen has promised to shuffle his pack for the trip to Nottingham. He told Bees Player: “We’re going to freshen up the team, there’s no doubt about that.

“Some players have done very well in training and not playing in the team but been very supportive to the players that have played.

“Some of them needed perhaps to improve and some of those players now deserve the opportunity to play .”

Ricardo Moniz’s side are currently a place and a point above the Bees in 16th after slipping out of League One last season.

But it is their FA Cup involvement which has attracted the most attention after they were knocked out in the first round by Northern Premier League Premier Division outfit Salford – owned by Gary and Phil Neville, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Nicky Butt.

The game was broadcast live by the BBC after a two-part documentary centring around the ‘Class of 92’s’ involvement in the Step Three club.

But Allen believes County are a better side than they showed in that 2-0 defeat.

He said: “I think most of the nation watched that FA Cup game a couple of weeks ago and I think the criticism the players received was harsh.

“How many times over the years have we seen these FA Cup games? And it was all set up; Friday night, live on the television.

“That Salford City team, probably most people don’t know them but they’ve spent a lot of money. They’ve got some good players up there for non-league level.

“I thought that was a really hard game for those players at Notts County. It’s never ever easy playing in those underdog, David v Goliath type ties.

“They beat Portsmouth at home recently, 2-1, and they were very unlucky on Saturday against Northampton Town where they had chances. Northampton are flying so they gave them a good game.”

The Bees will be without Bira Dembele (knee) and Graham Stack (groin) for the trip to Meadow Lane whilst Nicky Bailey could be back in content after missing Saturday’s draw with the Shrimps with a tight calf as a precautionary measure.
