Barnet boss Martin Allen promised no further additions as the emergency loan window shut on Wednesday evening, a week after going back on his word to sign Reading's Jack Stacey for the next month.

The Bees head coach told the Times Series last week there would be no further changes to the squad after signing Nicky Bailey and Josh Clarke and sending Ben Tomlinson and Mauro Vilhete out on loan.

However, on Monday Allen moved to sign Reading winger Stacey on loan for an initial month.

Asked if there had been a change of circumstances following Tuesday's 4-2 defeat at Notts County, Allen replied: "Something did change. Jack was coming here about five or six weeks ago after I saw Reading play against QPR where he was, once again, outstanding.

"He was all set to come but then he twisted his ankle in the last couple of minutes. So that’s when I went to get Josh Clarke from Brentford.

"Then last week I was offered Jack again. There’s been a lot of interest in him but I’ve been after him for a while.

"I tried to get him in the summer, I tried to get him at the end of last season but he got in Reading’s team.

"He’s just signed a four-year contract at Reading so he’s very highly thought of. He’s played games in the Championship."

He added: "I’ve watched Jack for the last 18 months. He’s a really good player. It might take him a little bit of time to settle into this division but he gets goals and assists."

But Allen has once again stated there will no new faces at The Hive ahead of Saturday's game against high-flying Mansfield Town.

"No, no more players are coming in," he confirmed. "We’ll have some players back fit for Saturday.

"Nicky Bailey has trained today (Tuesday) and done very well, so I’m sure now he comes into the frame.

"Kevin Lisbie played 80 minutes today and he was much sharper.

"He’s not ready for the first team yet but he’s done much better today in his fitness levels and match levels. So probably in a couple of weeks he’ll be back available to us.

"Bira Dembele had an injection on Monday evening and he’s got to rest that now for three days and we’ll see how he is in the middle of next week."
