Former Saracens prop and one of rugby’s most respected pundits David Flatman believes the reigning Premiership champions are the most complete team in England and has backed them to retain their crown come May.

Sarries are the only unbeaten team in the Premiership after four matches and are sitting pretty at the top of the table.

They followed up their final heartbreak in 2014 by winning the crown 12 months later with an emphatic 28-16 win over Bath Rugby.

And Flatman, who spent five years with Saracens as a player, has been hugely impressed by Mark McCall’s side in the opening months of the campaign.

Flatman said: “A handful of weeks into the season and Saracens are favourites by a mile. They are not unbeaten for no reason.

“They have not played exceptionally every week but they have never looked like losing a match and even at 12-6 at Northampton, they did not look like losing that.

“I think they are the most complete team in the Premiership and it wouldn’t shock me at all if they won it again – not at a canter – but if they lived up to their billing.

“They had a thumping victory in the final last season and they don’t look like letting up any time soon.”

Flatman started his professional career with Saracens and spent five years at the club before moving to Bath in 2003.

The prop went on to make more than 160 appearances for Bath and played for England eight times before having to retire due to injury.

He took up a role as Bath’s head of communications before becoming the lead pundit for ITV’s Aviva Premiership rugby coverage.

Flatman, who was speaking at a Jaguar Land Rover Academy of Sport unique experience day at Land Rover BAR, also highlighted one of Saracens’ brightest talents when he was asked about the foreign imports he is most excited by in the Premiership this term.

Flatman replied: “The one player I am most excited to see is Louis Picamoles but he is not arriving [at Northampton] until next year. He is going to be mega because he is an absolute monster, although he did get smashed up by Maro Itoje recently which surprised me.

“Maro is looking bigger and better every week.”

Flatman, ambassador for the Jaguar Land Rover Academy of Sport, mentored a range of rising star athletes as they visited the Land Rover BAR team base for a unique experience. For more information, please visit sportsaid.org.uk
