Martin Allen still hopes to add to his Barnet squad in the January transfer with a centre-forward among his targets.

The Bees made three acquisitions last week, signing Chris Hackett on loan from Northampton Town and capturing Alie Sesay and Mark Randall from Leicester City and MK Dons respectively.

Head coach Allen had made clear his intention to sign centre-back cover in light of Michael Nelson’s shoulder injury.

However, the experienced defender should be back to fitness quicker than anticipated.

Asked on Saturday if he would still like to bring further players to The Hive this month, Allen replied: “Yes, I think we probably need to.

“But I’m very well aware of the financial situation,” he continued. “We aren’t in a position to just go out and get the players that will improve this team.

“I enquired about another centre-forward last week and the figures being quoted just aren’t anywhere near our budget.

“It’s hard to get players to improve our team. I wanted to get some younger ones and get some fresh legs in because I felt we needed to try to improve it if we could. I don’t just want it to peter out.”
