Barnet have signed James Pearson, who was sacked by last club Leicester City after being filmed during a group sex video with two teammates, on a non-contract basis.

A video obtained by the Sunday Mirror showed the 23-year-old, and his then Foxes teammates Adam Smith and Tom Hopper, having group sex on Leicester’s promotional tour of Thailand where a racist comment was made by one of the other two players.

The right-back-cum-centre-back was subsequently sacked by the Premier League club before his father, first-team manager Nigel, was also relieved of his duties following the incident.

Pearson has been without a club since and last played for Wrexham during the 2014/15 campaign, making eight appearances in all competitions for the Dragons.

Speaking to Barnet’s website after joining, he said: “I’m very happy to have signed for Barnet. Now it’s time to get going and to get some games under my belt.

“I’m a defender – either a right back or a centre half, but my preferred position is right back. I’m quite an attacking full back, but I’m defensively solid as well.

“I like getting the ball in the box and helping the team score goals, but your main job as a defender is obviously to defend – I like to think I’m not bad at that as well.

“I spoke to the manager and he was looking to give me a chance and see what I’m all about.

“I’m delighted and very grateful that he’s given me an opportunity to prove what I can do – to play at this level with Barnet and to potentially progress further with this club in the future.”

He added: “The fan base is quite good, the facilities are great, there’s a good team and a good manager.

“So I can’t see why this club can’t eventually progress to the higher divisions of the Football League.”

Pearson made his one and only first-team appearance for Leicester City in a 1-0 League Cup defeat to Shrewsbury Town in August 2014.

He spent part of the 2013/14 campaign on loan at Carlisle United and made three appearances for the League One Cumbrians.
