Barnet dented the Play-Off hopes of Wycombe Wanderers with a well-deserved 1-1 draw at Adams Park.

After last week’s convincing 3-0 victory over Leyton Orient at The Hive Barnet boss Martin Allen made three changes to his starting line-up with keeper Graham Stack, teenage midfielder Harry Taylor and long-throw expert Sam Muggleton being selected ahead of Jamie Stephens, Curtis Weston and Luke Gambin.

The game was slow to ignite although Wycombe’s Michael Harriman did flash a shot wide in the opening minutes.

Barnet should have taken the lead mid-way through the first half when John Akinde was unmarked from a Muggleton corner but his headed effort lacked conviction.

The visitors then had further opportunities to forge ahead when excellent corners from the right by Yiadom were met with powerful headers by centre-backs Michael Nelson and Bira Dembele; both efforts going just over the crossbar.

Wycombe keeper Ryan Allsop was the busier of the two stoppers and it was the Chairboys man who then kept out a well-directed header by Michael Gash, who had latched onto Andy Yiadom’s nicely flighted free-kick.

Stack was only once called upon in the first half when he parried wide Max Kretzschmar’s free-kick for a corner.

The Bees continued to take the game to their hosts in the second half with Akinde and Yiadom again going close. But it was the home side who took the lead in the 58th minute with a scrappy goal from Paul Hayes, who bundled the ball over the line after Harriman had hit the bar.

Barnet responded by introducing Gambin from the bench at the expense of Muggleton as they sought a leveller, although Wycombe almost extended their advantage when Garry Thompson flashed an effort wide of the target.

But in the 72nd minute the Bees deservedly drew level when Elliott Johnson made a surging, determined run down the left before pulling the ball back for Yiadom to find the net from close range.

With Wycombe seeking a winner to boost the Play-Off chances Barnet deployed a third centre-back with Bondz N’Gala being called upon for the five minutes of added on time. The ploy was a success with the home side unable to conjure any further chances, with the Bees certainly worth the draw.
