Barnet continued their good run of form in pre-season fixtures as they cruised to a comfortable 2-0 victory at Wheatsheaf Park against Staines Town of the Ryman League.

Summer signing Ryan Watson was on target with two first-half goals to separate the teams. The former Leicester City man had been impressive in midweek in the 1-0 victory at The Hive against Ipswich Town.

The 23-year-old is operating on the right side of midfield and the Bees might have found a replacement for the popular Andy Yiadom, who opted for a move to Championship Barnsley during the close season.

The visitors took the lead in the third minute when from their first foray forward of note, Watson’s curling effort from distance found the top right-hand corner.

Staines carved out the occasional opportunity for themselves but centre-back Bondz N’Gala was proving a difficult hurdle for the home side to overcome.

Kane Haysman looked the player most likely to get on the scoresheet for the home side in the first half but it was the visitors who were the more dominant.

Watson scored his second with a minute of the first period remaining with another well-executed finish, this time he found the bottom left corner with a powerful driven effort.

During the interval the Bees made five changes in order to give members of the squad more match minutes whilst Staines put out an entirely different XI for the second half.

Barnet continued to create numerous openings but were unable to extend their lead despite the best efforts of French striker Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro.

Barnet continue their pre-season programme with a friendly against Gillingham on Saturday at The Hive.
