Barnet host Millwall tomorrow evening in the club's first foray into cup football this season, in a mirror image of last year's League Cup opener.

Then titled the Capital One Cup, the Bees triumphed 2-1 at The Den after leading through John Akinde penalty, before they secured an extra-time win thanks to since-departed Andy Yiadom's late strike.

Bees fans will hope this year's tie in the newly-named EFL Cup, this time at The Hive, ends in similar circumstances; the possibility of a big-name second round opposition could prove a significant lure.

The Barnet Times spoke to Millwall fan and blogger Omar Ronayne before the game to find out what kind of test the Bees could expect from their League One visitors.

"Changes from our strongest line-up are likely to be made," he said. "Although a cup run would be welcomed and something different to look out for, attentions this season are firmly on getting back into the Championship.

"Despite changes being guaranteed, we don’t have the biggest squad and competition for places is extremely high, with players not in the starting line-up looking to prove a point."

A quiet summer at The Den was little surprise after they came so close to promotion last time out, before losing to Barnsley in the League One play-off final at Wembley back in May.

Ronayne said: "Last season was very much a transitional season, with lots of experienced players leaving, and the club changing its plans and turning to youth.

"All three of our summer signings this year fit the age to develop with us and hopefully become key members of the squad."

A total of 27 squad numbers were given out by Harris at the start of the season, and the chance to rotate will be a welcome one with a minimum of seven fixtures before the end of August.

But regular starters Steve Morison, in his third spell at The Den, and Arsenal academy graduate Mahlon Romeo, could both start, and according to Ronayne, would be two to catch the eye for Barnet fans.

He said: "Romeo burst onto the scene last season and made the right back position his own in the side.

"Having been on Arsenal’s books as a youngster, he has that added comfort on the ball, but also the blistering pace, providing a key outlet on the overlap.

"Morison on the other hand is the seasoned pro up front.

"He sets the example to the rest of the forwards to follow, and despite not having as many goals as top scorer from last season Gregory, Morison is sure to pop-up with a timely crucial goal."
