Hendon Rugby improved during their first game of 2017 with a 29-15 win at Saracens Amatuers on Saturday.

Having not played since before Christmas, the visitors got off to a nervous start - but still took the lead seven minutes in, when Saracens were caught offside and Cian Hynes slotted over the resulting penalty.

Winger Chris Kiyingi then crossed to seemingly add the first try of the afternoon, but it was disallowed for what was adjudged to be a knock-on.

At the break, the scores were level at 3-3 but following some stern words from Hendon coach Brimah Kebbie, Arwel Roberts chased down his own kick to score in the corner within a minute of the restart.

Hynes added to his personal points tally by adding the conversion, but Saracens responded with a try of their own to level up.

A scrum well inside the Sarries half ended with Dave Francis crashing through the home defence to go over, befroe Hynes again obliged with the extras.

Hendon's dominance was ramping up, and when a Saracens man was sin-binned for a foul on Toby Ikwueke, their route to victory looked clear.

It became even moreso when Hendon took the scrum instead of a penalty, and Francis added their third try of the day.

The man of the match added another with an outrageous run, skipping past four Saracens defenders before sealing victory with a hat-trick score.

Saracens added a consolation in the final minute – but the game was long gone from their grasp.
