Potters Bar ground out a narrow 2-1 victory over bottom-placed Romford for a first league win in three in the Bostik North Division, with Eoin Casey's double the difference between the two sides.
The Scholars were made to work hard by a side belying their lowly position, but took the lead after 32 minutes when Lee O'Leary's shot was deflected into Casey's path, and the forward grabbed the fortuitous opportunity with both hands to fire home.
Casey could have had a second before the break, shooting just beyond the far post when put through.
He made no mistake with a chance after the interval, heading home a Michael Murray free-kick right on the hour mark.
The visitors kept plugging away, though, and were rewarded with 17 minutes to go when Jonathon Nzengo fired home from the edge of the box.
That was as good as it would get however, and Potters Bar clung on for victory.
Potters Bar: Laurencin, Lomas, O'Leary, Brown, Janilionas, Lawal, Adcock, Murray (Baird 85), Nicholas, Casey (Ogunsola 90).
